The H.264 Video Compression Standard.
In Proceedings Norwegian Signal Processing Symposium (NORSIG), Bergen (Norway), October 2003

Abstract
The recently ratified new video compression standard H.264/MPEG-4 AVC is reviewed. Its basic concepts as well as all important features/algorithms are explained in detail, it is put into the historical context of other video coding standards, and an objective and subjective performance evaluation is given. Compared to previous standards, the coding improvements of H.264 are, in terms of PSNR, at least 2 dB and, measured in bit rate saving, at least 40%.

Keywords
H.264, H.26L, MPEG-4 AVC, International Standard 14496-10, block-based hybrid video coding, decoder, encoder, Baseline, Main, Extended, performance evaluation.
